| Properties:- |
| Benzphetamine is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar to an amphetamine. It is also known as an "anorectic" or "anorexigenic" drug. Benzphetamine stimulates your central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite |
| Why It Is Used:- |
| This medicine is an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity. Drugs of this class are thought to suppress appetite via a central mechanism (appetite centers in the brain) although this has mechanism has not been clearly proven. |
| Dosage:- |
| This medication is best taken on an empty stomach; one hour before breakfast each morning. If you are taking this medicine once a day, take your dose in the morning. Take your last dose of the day at least 4 to 6 hours before bedtime. Sustained-release or long acting products such as this, must be swallowed whole. Crushing or chewing them will destroy the long action and may cause increased side effects. Because this medication may cause sleeplessness, avoid taking a dose late in the day. Take this medication as prescribed. Do not take it more often or longer than directed. Use in combination with other appetite suppressant medicine is generally not recommended. Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor.Do not exceed the recommended dose or take this medicine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may cause serious side effects. Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are using this medicine. |
| Missed Dosage:- |
| If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is after noon and you are taking this medicine 1 time a day or after 4 pm and you are taking it more than 1 time a day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. |
| Over Dosage:- |
| If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include restlessness, tremor, rapid breathing, confusion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps. |
| Storage:- |
| Store this medicine at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. |
| Didrex Side Effects:- |
MILD:
Blurred vision, dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, stomach upset or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. Other adverse events include central nervous system effects, gastrointestinal disturbances, and changes in libido. If these effects persist or become bothersome, you may have to discontinue use. Exercise caution when prescribing anti-obesity drugs for patients with hypertension. If this medication makes you dizzy or lightheaded, avoid driving or engaging in activities requiring alertness. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness. Limit its use.
MODERATE:
Chest pain, pounding heart, difficulty urinating, breathing difficulties or swelling while taking this medication.
SEVERE:
Primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) and cardiac valvular disease have been reported in patients receiving a combination of phentermine and fenfluramine (phen-fen) or dexfenfluramine. The possibility of an association between PPH and the use of DIDREX alone cannot be ruled out.

| Contra Indications:- |
DIDREX is contraindicated in patients with arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and moderate to severe hypertension.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Do not use this medicine if you are also taking furazolidone, guanadrel, guanethidine, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine. |
| Pregnancy and Children:- |
| Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant. If you suspect that you could be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. This medicine is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking this medicine. This medicine is not suitable for children. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. |

DIDREX is a short-term drug that helps you to start losing weight and then keep on going when you are ready to carry on, on your own. Your body starts to build up a resistance to the effects of DIDREX after a few weeks of treatment, which is when you should be well on your way to a new lifestyle and ready to stop DIDREX.
Before you have any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine.
Appetite suppressants are not a substitute for proper diet. For maximum effects, this must be used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program.
DIDREX is an appetite suppressant. Xenical inhibits fat absorption into the body. So both may be used in conjunction with each other for those who are seriously obese.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children.
